About ISSEC 2027
A first-of-its-kind gathering
The inaugural Innovative Synergy in Structural Engineering Conference convenes four institutes that have, until now, mostly run in parallel. ISSEC 2027 puts them on one programme.
Four institutes. One room.
SAICE Structural Division hosts. SAISC, the Concrete Society of Southern Africa and York Timbers (University of Pretoria) co-curate. Each institute brings its own expertise, but the programme is designed to be interdisciplinary from the ground up.
Papers, panels, and floor-time
Two days of presented papers, moderated panels and a working exhibition floor. We're optimising for the conversations that happen between sessions as much as inside them.
Themes
Professional Awareness & Responsibility
The engineer's obligation to the public, the climate, and the profession. Ethics in practice, evolving regulation, accountability across the project lifecycle, and the changing definition of competence.
Core Material Disciplines
Concrete, steel, timber and composite — each discipline in its own track, with crossover sessions that explore where the materials work together.
The floor
is open.
We’re accepting abstracts from across the four disciplines and both themes. Early-stage work is welcome — tell us what you’ve been working on.
Convened by four.
Open to all.
